Happy One Year "Maidless" Anniversary!

This month marks my family's One Year Maidless Anniversary.

To celebrate this small "victory" of me surviving a year without a maid yet didn't go mad (in fact living happier with new found freedom & decided to make it a lifestyle choice), I designed a simple infographic to record how the gadgets and machines have replaced my maid (of course I have to acknowledge the contribution from my hubby & kids + part time domestic helpers who come in once a week)

I am so thankful for technologies. My hubby calls it "Automaidtion".

Long life all great inventors out there!!! guess I can live longer too)

In fact, in order to fit the dishwasher into my kitchen, my hubby and I decided to renovate the kitchen and utilize the extra 5 feet of land. Some may thought we were crazy because there's no maid to help cleaning up the house during the renovation period.

My old kitchen.. or rather...my maid's kitchen
Somehow it is a blessing in disguise that my ex-maid cheated on me and never returned from the Philippines.

Times flies...those days of playing "MASAK-MASAK" are over and now my kids are cooking REAL food. Last time the maid refused to let them "buat kacau" inside her kitchen. Now I give them total freedom to cook & experiment with food. In life, what's more important is passion and the willingness to try.
We got crazier... in the middle of the kitchen renovation, we decided to renovate the maid room cum piano room as well. Below was the result...

Instead of paying thousands to custom made a book shelf, we used back our old white Billy bookcase from Ikea
and added some new ones. It saves us lots of money :-)

I somehow thank my ex-maid for not coming back... it is a Blessing In Disguise indeed. If not we would not have the chance to enjoy what we are enjoying now.

Nothing is better than being self-reliant and not having a stranger at home.

Wow, one year already? Yes, living without a maid is hard but not impossible. Like you, I'm truly thankful for all my household appliances and machines, and getting everyone to chip in and help does bring the family closer together :)
Having to clean up during and after the renovations must have been tough,I remember when we did renovations few years back, but your kitchen looks really nice now!

Hi Sunny-Cookie, how time flies right?
And you're right, I somehow feel that without a maid our family is even closer than before.
I don't use dishwasher and cloth dryer everyday. But it is convenient whenever I feel tired/lazy etc.

Regarding that renovation, it is really a No Pain No Gain process. I was pretty worried initially, but my hubby and even my MIL encourage me the COURAGE to make the dream a reality. And I really enjoy my new kitchen very much. It has become a place for me to relax my mind (even though my hands are busy) after a day of work in the office, ha ha!

Hi Yuin Ting, how you doin'? Wow! Love your home. So well kept and very neat.
And love your decor.Your kitchen is very nice....
Ha ha, no maid?
Where I am nobody has a maid unless very rich.
All our Malaysian, Singapore friends have no maids...
But no big deal...we get along ok.

I guess Malaysians are spoilt with having maids...ha ha.
Anyway, you keep well, best regards, and keep a song in your heart.
Lee.

As some people often say, no one is indispensable. No maid, no worries for you! And it is a blessing in disguise like you said, you have a better life!

Hi Uncle Lee, glad to hear from you.
It has been more than a year that I am without a maid (after having maid for 16 years), but i am glad I cope well and have improvement in my cooking skill.

And best of all, even my hubby has started to show interest in cooking! Never knew that he got talent in cooking! What a blessing in disguise.

Uncle Lee, your blog already tutup kedai, do you have Facebook page that i can visit?

Hi Joyful.Mum, I do agree that No One Is Indispensable. I am sure this year I have set a good example for my children. We have to be self reliant.

Looking back, I am most glad that I can cook for my family. I am happy to see my kids having my home cook food. (Besides my mom, I am fortunate to have neighbours and friends who are generous in sharing their recipe). And best of all, even my hubby loves to cook now.

I've added one more "automation" recently -Karcher steam and vacuum. I simply love all these gadgets!
